Our Pumpkin Patch

No I didn't misspell. We actually went to a pumpkin "craving." And of course we did some carving too. Well, mostly the boys carved the pumpkins while the girls gave instructions. After the carving was finished, we had a delicious meal of spaghetti and homemade bologna sauce, followed by too many deserts. And yes, I actually made cupcakes! Turns out....our oven works! It was a great night and my husband even won the pumpkin carving contest! Who knew I married such a sculpter?

Molly's Birthday

On October 10, my good friend Molly turned THIRTY! She has been such a good friend to me over the past five years, especially while I was planning my wedding, that I wanted to do something special for her. So I contacted her mom, and to make a very long story short, we decided to throw a surprise birthday party for her and her twin brother Andy. It was a lot of work, especially keeping it a secret. Molly has a tendency to be very curious and quite astute. Truly you can't pull anything over her, and we almost got caught several times. But somehow, we managed to keep her in the dark, and both she and her brother were surprised. Stunned even. The hard work was well worth it just to see the shock on her face.

It's A .....

So today we went in for a surprise ultrasound. We hadn't planned on having an ultrasound today, but life is full of surprises. Yesterday the high risk OB/GYN called us personally and told us that my blood work had some unusual markers. She then said that we needed to come in for an ultrasound the next morning. So after a horrible day and a sleepless night filled with so many prayers that we lost count, we arrived at the doctor's office. I was the first patient of the day, so thankfully we didn't have to wait. Once inside the room, it was very quite. The doctor measured every inch of the baby, from crown to rump. There were so many numbers and arrows on the screen, you could barely see the baby. Chris was squeezing my hand so tightly that I was certain I had lost circulation to my fingers. And me, I was barely breathing, holding my breath, waiting for the doctor to say something. And then she said, "The measurements look great. I don't see anything to be concerned about." Finally the air came back into the room and I could breathe again. Then she asked if we wanted to know what it was. We both nodded our heads. "Congratulations, you are having a healthy baby GIRL!" So here we go. I guess I better get reacquainted with my old friends, Barbie and Ken.

A Golf Outing

For the past fifteen years, our family has had a golf tournament in late summer or early spring. We get up very early and go to a small par three golf course about thirty minutes away. As our family has gotten bigger, through marriages and babies, the golf course now is closed to the public for the morning. That's right, we rent out the entire course. Every family member is assigned a team. And then we just go out and have fun. Keep in mind, that the women are there to socialize and the men are there to WIN! There are prizes for every hole, like longest drive, or closest to the hole. After the prizes are awarded, we all sit around and have lunch and just enjoy each other's company. We are so blessed to have such a large and fun family. Everyone enjoys the day, from my eighty year old grandmother to my new eight day old cousin.
