2 year checkup

The boys had their two year check up last Thursday. Ummm....how is it that the appointment was a month late when I am married to the owner of the practice?! We are blessed that his practice is so busy:) even if it means waiting our turn:)
Both boys had to get finger pricks for CBC counts and lead poisoning. Blake was used to all the finger pricks. He offered up his finger like a pro. Beckett on the other hand said, "owie!" and continued to scream his bloody head off for the next ten minutes.
Beckett: 26 lbs 14 oz (25% weight)
              32.5 inches (25% weight)
You are a little guy. But that doesn't stop you. You are BUSY.  You can speak in six word sentences and are learning to count to ten!! You are a pretty good eater, you love love cranberries. You are fiercely independent. But I am still your favorite person. You have a keen eye and a fantastic memory. You know what you want and....you want it now! You love your Aunt Jenni:) you are so expressive with your voice and your eyes. You have started using, "wow! and oh no! and wowie! and shoot!" and it makes me laugh out loud. You are the big brother in every sense of the word. You are always looking for Blake. You will shout, "Bakey!" that's what you call him:) and if we need to leave the house, you will try to usher Blake out the door. You will literally put your arm around him and say, "come on Bakey." You are his biggest fan and that makes me happy.
Blake: 28lbs 8oz (50%weight)
           32.5 inches (25% height)
You are a solid little guy. You are the same height as your brother but you weigh almost a pound and a half more. You are talking so much now!! It's not always clear...but you are definitely trying to communicate. You love to sing. If you are playing quietly, you will begin singing to yourself. I don't know the songs...so I wonder where you have learned them. Or maybe you just made them up;) You are learning to count to ten as well and become quite proud of yourself after we've reached ten. You have become an even pickier eater lately. You aren't even loving macaroni and cheese anymore. You are so so easy going though. You continue to amaze me with all you endure. Your doctor visits, your finger pricks, your IVIG medication for the ITP, and your nebukizer daily for your asthma. You aren't  fased by any of it. I wish it could be me. I wish it were me getting poked and stuck. I wish I could take the pain and illness away from you. Many nights I cry myself to sleep. Your daddy and I wonder why you? Why did you have to get ITP? The past six weeks have been rough. We go to get (blood) counts every other day. We go to clinic weekly. And depending on what your counts are, we either go home or to the hospital to get infused. Our lives revolve around your counts. We can't let you hit your head. If you do, we have to go for a CT scan to make sure you aren't bleeding in your brain. Bruises cover your legs. And you are pale. Yet we are still grateful. We acknowledge the fact that you have ITP and not leukemia. We are....blessed. You still love balls. You are consumed with them and my heart remains hopeful that your ITP is acute and not chronic. For if it is chronic...you will not be able to play contact sports. But you are so sweet. So happy. Your newest obsession is Chuck e Cheese. If we ask you what you want to do today..."chuck e cheese" is your answer. When we pull into the parking lot, you begin clapping. And just recently, you have been engaging your brother. You want him to play "hoop" with you. And you will give him the ball and show him what to do. It makes me laugh. Just this week...you started saying "Beckett"! You boys are growing so quickly. Time is both my enemy and my friend. For I love watching you grow and embrace the world ahead of you, but I long for the times past when all you wanted, all you needed was me.

  1. Such sweet boys!

I did not realize all that the ITP involved. Goodness! :( So sorry. I admire your perspective and thankfulness though. Prayers!
