The fact that my almost four and a half year old is not potty trained does not bother me. At all. Blake will do things in his own time. And honestly, the boy deserves a break. Tonight was a bad night for him. He had a vasomotor instability episode. He was just diagnosed with this in February. It is a condition where there is poor communication between the blood vessels and the autonomic nervous system. Basically what happens is Blake will get pale very quickly, then he will tell me that his head hurts, then he will puke. A lot. 😔 And sometimes pass out. So....according to the cardiologist we have to keep him "sloshy hydrated." Even though I know what the episodes are now, I still hate it for him. It's just one more thing that he has to deal with. Blake's medical history is.....complicated.
Less than eight hours after birth he was diagnosed with meningitis. As he got older he was diagnosed with failure to thrive. Then with gross developmental delays. He has had physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, ( which he is still in) and a developmental interventionalist. He has been diagnosed with mild hearing loss in his left ear and is followed by Heuser Hearing Institute. He has a PFO, (patent foramen ovale) that requires biyearly visits to the cardiologist and clearance before any surgery. He has had a frenulectomy for being tongue tied. He has had lacrimal duct stenosis where the ophthalmologist took a balloon catheter to both tear ducts to widen the opening. He has had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. He has had ear tubes times two. He has had bullous myringitis, a painful condition where a fluid filled vesicle appears on the eardrum requiring it to be drained. He is an asthmatic. When he has an attack he requires breathing treatments every.single.hour. And steroids. And that's just to keep him out of the hospital. As a result of all the albuterol he is on, he has had four cavities, (I am the daughter of a dentist, we brush their teeth) and had to have a pulpectomy. He has allergies to most everything outside. He was diagnosed with synovitis in his leg after he developed a limp at the beginning of this year. Thankfully that did not have to be drained. Oh and right before his second birthday he was diagnosed with ITP, idiopathic thrombocytopenia. We thought we going to lose him. His platelet count was 3,000. He's got a lot going on. And he is ONLY four years old. So I really don't give a damn if he's not potty trained. I'm just blessed that he is mine....and on this side of heaven.
